(A) FINE US SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1896 KRAG BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

The Model 1896 was the standard American long-arm for Marines and regular Army troops engaged in Cuba in 1898 once war was declared in April. This standard Model 1896 rifle has a crisp "JSA 1896" cartouche along with the cursive "P" proof under wrist. Both sides of stock have a rack or unit number "22" stamp. First type 1896 rear sight and handguard. Stock is walnut with finger grooves. Pinned blade-on-base front sight, two bands, blue finish, swivels, and smooth buttplate with trap. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel retains the majority of its blue finish showing some minor handling marks. The frame and magazine are now a mottled patina. The magazine cover is blue with some freckling. The stock is excellent with nominal impressions. The trigger guard shows flashes of blue blending with patina. Mechanically sound with a bold lightly frosted bore.
