US Harpers Ferry Model 1841 with 1848 dated tang. "AW" over "P" inspection on chamber with "VP" Eagle proof. Lock has 1848 date at rear with traditional Harpers Ferry markings with an eagle with "US" underneath. One piece walnut stock with brass furniture. Barrel is arsenal modified with side mounted bayonet lug. All steel rammer. NJ stock marking opposite lock in wood. Known as the the most attractive of all US martial long arms of the period and the primary rifle of the US Mexican war. CONDITION: Very fine, barrel and brass uncleaned with a pleasant patina. Stock is excellent with period impressions and bruises. Lock does not hold on safety notch and hammer will fall when trigger pulled from safe position. Very fine otherwise.
