Manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Company of Berlin in anticipation of military contracts. They produced 1,100 of them and then DWM manufactured 2,000 examples. This was one of the earliest examples of a semi-automatic pistol ever developed. It is based on the toggle action from Hyrum Maxims machine gun. This gun is an all-matching gun serial number 374. The stock and cheekpiece are numbered 480. Crown BUG proofs on the barrel and left side of frame. "WAFFENFABRIK / LOEWE / BERLIN" is over the chamber, with "D.R.P. / NO.75837" on the front toggle link. Detachable 8 round box magazine is numbered to the gun. Two-piece checkered wood grips. CONDITION: Gun retains approximately 65% of the factory original applied blue finish. Finish loss on the grip straps and the spring housing. The grips show normal wear with a few dings and scratches. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. Nice matching magazine with the nickeled finish being 96%. The stock and cheekpiece are in wonderful shape. There are a few dings and scratches in the wood. A very rare and desirable gun for any collection. REW
