(A) MARTIALLY INSPECTED SPENCER MODEL 1860 POST WAR ALTERED CARBINE
Originally issued as an 1860 model but was converted circa 1867-1875 with a lined 3-groove .50 caliber rifled barrel. The Stabler cut off was also added. The left side of stock has the "ECW" Springfield Armory sub-inspector stamp of E.C. Wheeler. The frame still has the Spencer 1860 legend. The blued round barrel is not marked, but features a blade on base front sight, folding ladder rear sight with spring, single barrel band with swivel, saddle ring and bar, and walnut stock with loading tube in butt plate and a sling swivel. CONDITION: Very good to fine. The barrel still retains at least half the blue which is blending grey patina with the blue hue. Case colors have patterned out. Stocks are solid showing sundry small dings and impressions. Mechanically sound with a strong bore showing some minor abrasion. Very crisp early Indian Wars armory alteration that was also used during the Civil War.
