(A) MUZZY & COMPANY PERCUSSION HEAVY BARREL TARGET RIFLE WITH STARTER.

This company formed in Massachusetts in 1857. The mostly visible maker legend "MUZZY LOWELL MASS CAST STEEL" is found on left side of the large and extremely heavy octagon barrel. Case color back action lock, a tang lollipop rear sight, a hooded front sight, double set triggers, walnut stock, brass furniture, and detachable barrel brace. It is accompanied by a period brass bullet starter attached to the false muzzle. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel is sharp but in the white. Lock still has some nice color and pattern. Stock is fine. Mechanically sound. It is interesting to note that quite a few of these extremely heavy target rifles were used by both sides during the Civil War.
