Manufactured in March-April of 1877. One of the last of the 1873 carbines as it has the high arch, but restocked, as the butt plate now has the trapdoor and there is no cartouche on left side. The proof "P" is not present. More than likely an update and rebuild for the New Jersey militia with "NJ" stamped on left side of frame. Carbine has the proper "C" marked rear sight, post front sight, single barrel band, saddle ring with bar, unmarked walnut stock with metal grip attachment, and US marked butt plate with trap. The case color block has faint remains of Model 1873 stamp, another factor in this writer's belief that this was arsenal rebuilt. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel is smooth patina with bold VP eagle head proof at left side breech. Case colors have patterned out but are strong on the inside. Hammer retains most arsenal blue. Sideplate has bold eagle and legend. Stock is excellent showing only minor impressions. The rifling is still well defined and bright with minor abrasions.
