Mamny Dutch arms were ordered by the colonies and were also brought over by German mercenary troops. This fusil is a scaled down version of a Dutch infantry musket of the same pattern. For an example of the full size musket matching this Fusil, see plate 63.MM on page 113 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. The cataloguer has seen an example of this musket branded "UNITED STATES" on the right side of the buttstock. There are also two other known examples with names or identifications and dates shown in Bill Ahearn's "Muskets of the Revolution" on pages 207-208. The musket has a round barrel with indistinct maker's mark at the breech and bayonet lug mounted on the bottom, towards the muzzle. The convex lockplate is unmarked. The barrel is retains by three brass bands. The furniture is brass and features a distinct sideplate. Walnut stock with an iron ramrod. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and lock retain a grey patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and functions well. Brass retains a pleasing dark mustard patina. Stock very good with some scattered marks from use and hairline age cracks. A rare Fusil.
