Precursor to the Mosin Nagant in Russian service, the single shot Berdan II was Russia's first bolt action cartridge rifle. This example is dated 1881 on the barrel and on a legible stock cartouche. Receiver retains its imperial eagle crest. The front sight boss is blank although the ladder rear sight is retained. Matching numbers observed on barrel and bolt, other numbers mixed. CONDITION: Very Good. Rifle has largely faded to patina with some oxidation on the trigger guard. Stocks are good with impressions and nicks, including 2 "kill notches" on the right side of the handguard. Well defined bore. Fine mechanics.
