It is estimated that approximately 15,000 Whitney Kennedy repeating rifles were made in all variations from 1879 through 1886. This rifle features the full octagon barrel with the Whitneyville Armory legend and the full magazine. This example has the standard lever rather than the S style. The front sight is the German silver knife blade along with a semi buckhorn rear. Finish is standard blue. The walnut stock has the standard metal rifle butt plate as well as the matching forearm. The upper tang has a non-factory tapped sight hole as well as the patent date legends. CONDITION: Very good to fine. The stock is a might shy to metal and displays sundry light dings and impressions with some added finish as does the matching forearm. The frame is basically a smooth patina with some flashes of finish and some minor dings. Some of the screws are distorted. The bolt retains at least 80% of its bright blue. Barrel and tube are a butter smooth homogenous patina with crisp edges and legends. Mechanically sound with a well defined bore showing some frosting. A very handsome and highly sought after large frame.
