Scarce and extremely fine Springfield Model 1842 rifled and sighted rifle musket. Dated "1855" on lock and "1854" on breech these scarce variations were produced as a conversion at Springfield Armory with only slightly more than 14000 produced. These quickly became a primary weapon of the Northern troops at the onset of the US Civil War. Of these rifled variations, less than 10,00 were fitted with the Long Range sights that are on this variation. Rifled musket is appointed with the correct bright finished cruciform socket bayonet with the US stamping at its ricasso. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with fine bright bore and remains in its arsenal bright finish. Mechanically fine. The stock is very fine with only some light impression from storage. Truly a fine example.
