Approximately 12,800 palm pistols were manufactured in Chicago during the 1890s and referred to as the Improved Protector, it is estimated that less than 1000 examples of this pistol were factory blued. Panels were made of hard rubber, matching hard rubber grip pad, sideplate stamped "Chicago Firearms Company, Chicago, Illinois". Matching serial numbers. It as is if the pistol was in a time machine as there is barely a sign of wear on the push rods, indicating it was only squeezed a few times. CONDITION: This extremely rare factory blued pistol is in as new condition inside and out. No signs of having ever been fired. The high polish factory blue finish is 99.9% with barely a rub worth noting. Rubber panels are near perfect. Blue is absolutely brilliant, with only a few age freckles. If this pistol was not good enough on its own, it also comes in its own illustrated picture box. CONDITION: All corners and aprons are intact with one apron showing slight separation and small crack. Bottom of box is lightly separating and has the instructions and return address for the Ames Sword Company in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Inside the lid are instructions for handling the protector. It is the best condition box we have ever seen with near perfect label and a small tear near the man's lower wrist. Included are 13 of the original cartridges that came with this pistol and a loading rod. Arguably the finest known blued example anybody has ever seen that also comes in a custom made walnut and glass display case with hanger. Simply outstanding.
