This is a Type 2 rifle that features the Model 1858 rear sight. Iron mounted and all iron components are finished bright with iron forend cap. Has the patchbox that is not cut for the implement compartments. This rifle is dated 1860 on the side plate and barrel, which was the largest single year of production at 2,702. The implement compartment is oval and is drilled for a spare nipple. Rifle is a standard Second Model in all respects. Has the Maynard tape priming system with eagle stamped “U.S. Harper's Ferry” on plate. Left side of barrel has the verified proof eagle head. Both bands have a “U” stamped. Butt plate is stamped “U.S.”. Bottom tang has inspector mark. Bottom of stock is stamped “U”. Left side of stock has a visible cartouche but not readable. The stock is in excellent condition with usual minor bruises and a little added finish, not cracked. All unfinished metal is in excellent condition with just some usual age spots. Comes with twin sling swivels and period ramrod. Strong, clean, rifled bore. In addition, comes with an original period U.S. stamped bayonet with brass handle. The leather sheath is armory stamped. Overall an extremely clean all original 1855 Civil War era dated Harper's Ferry rifle.
