This issue rifle is dated 1837. It is standard in all respects but was arsenal converted from flintlock to percussion. The lock has the Springfield US and eagle legend. Barrel has the V P and eagle head. Tang is dated 1837. Metal finished in the white. The full length walnut stock has two strong cartouche stamps on the left side: EB for Elizur Bates and ET for Elisha Tobey. There is an EH sub inspector stamp on trigger guard (Erastus Hitchcock) There is an S sub inspector stamp on side plate. Features three bands, swivels and metal ramrod. CONDITION: Fine. The hammer, trigger guard and lock are a soft grey patina. Barrel and bands in the white having been just lightly cleaned at one time and has some toning. Stock is excellent with usual minor dings. There is a bit of dry light age grain separation at butt plate. All legends are sharp. Action is working and the bore is fairly clean. Also comes with a US bayonet. This is an extremely strong example.
