(A) US MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL BY H. ASTON.

Approximately 24,000 made from 1846 through 1850 in Middletown Conn. This example is dated 1847 on lock and tang. Also stamped with maker and US on lock with JH (Joseph Hannis) inspector stamp on barrel with US and P. Left side of stock has the WAT (William Anderson Thornton) along with a unit / stock number 3. Features the swivel type rod and a small brass front sight blade. Stock has a lanyard hole drilled through the wrist. Iron hardware with brass furniture. CONDITION: Very good. Stock exhibits a few light cracks. Hardware shows some scattered age freckling. Brass is lightly toned. Legends are strong. Mechanically sound with a fairly clean bore. This was the most widely used US sidearm during the Mexican American War (1846-1848)
