(A) US MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL BY H. ASTON.
Approximately 24000 were manufactured from 1846 through 1850 in Middletown, Connecticut. This example is dated 1849 on lock with US and maker. "SK" inspector stamp for Samuel Knous with "P". Left side of stock has the WAT inspector stamp for "William A. Thornton" as well as the "SK" stamp. Standard iron hardware with brass furniture, swivel rod, and small brass front sight. CONDITION: Very good. Clean patina on lock and hammer with strong legends. Barrel is patina with some textured finish at breech. Brass is slightly toned as cleaned at one time. Stock is excellent. Mechanically sound. Dating to the last year of the Mexican-American war. PROVENANCE: Ex. Castlerock Museum.
