About 10,000 pistols made in Middletown Conn from 1853 through 1855. There is a GWH (George W. Hartwell. 1846-1855) inspector stamp on barrel with US and proof P. Lock is dated 1855 with US and maker legend. The tang is dated 1846 so tang had to have been replaced or an older dated tang was used. Iron hardware with brass furniture, swivel rod, small brass front sight. CONDITION: Very good. All metal was cleaned at one time and is now bright. Brass is lightly toned having been cleaned as well. Mechanically sound exhibiting a sharp bore. This was a commonly used gun by dragoon units during the Civil War.
