Lot #1060:
(A) WHITNEY ARMS THUNDERBOLT .44 RF SINGLE SHOT RIFLE.
Seldom seen Sporting rifle that was manufactured by Whitney Arms from 1866 through 1870. It is referred to as the Howard, the inventor brothers, Charles and Sebre, patent of 1862. The Thunderbolt was an advertising coined phrase first used by the Howard brothers but never stamped as such on the rifle itself. These single shot lever action rifles feature a full round barrel and made without a forearm. The stock is walnut with a rifle butt plate. The rear sight is a folding military style also fitted with a dovetailed front sight. The Howard patents are stamped on left side of the barrel while the Whitney legend is found on the right side. CONDITION: Very good. All metal is a butter smooth patina retaining sharp legends. The stock is solid exhibiting sundry dings and an added coat of finish. Mechanically sound with a well defined strong bore.
