Wickham produced approximately 16,600 1816 contract muskets between 1822 and 1837. The browned barrel is stamped "F / P / US" at the breech. Convex lock plate is stamped "M.T. WICKHAM" in an arc over "PHILA". Lock appears to be a professional reconversion. American walnut stock marked "V / GF" on the left flat. Standard iron Charleville styled mounts. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel retains an attractive browned appearance with some wiped on finish. Lock also has some added finish with mild evidence of older oxidation underneath. Foward band shows more evidence of cleaned oxidation. Stock has been cleaned with impressions throughout and a few repaired splits. Black powder abraded bore. Fine mechanics.
