Lot #1364:
(A) WINCHESTER 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE IN DESIRABLE .50-95 CHAMBERING.
Included factory research indicates that his rifle shipped October 7, 1881 with round barrel and Express chambering. The round barrel has been gunsmith shortened to 26" and is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and semi-buckhorn rear. Standard 2-line address and "50 Cal." caliber marking. Brass elevator also engraved "50-95". Blued frame with nonintegral dust cover guide. Dust cover has hand stamped "WINCHESTER EXPRESS / 50 CAL. 95 GRS." markings. Classic plain walnut stocks with tool trap crescent rifle butt plate. CONDITION: Good. Blue has largely faded to a pleasant even gray with some surface spotting. Traces of factory blue are retained around the side panels and other protected areas. 30-40% nitre blue on loading gate. Stocks have been lightly sanded and reoiled with evidence of use throughout. Magazine plug and hanger appear to be replacements. Bore shows well defined rifling with some light, cleaned abrasions. Fine mechanics.
