Lot #1362:
(A) WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1866 YELLOWBOY LEVER ACTION RIFLE.
Dates to 1869. Very early 3rd model rifle. The barrel has the "King's Improvement Winchester Repeating Arms Co Oct. 16, 1860" barrel legend. Standard rifle features the full octagon barrel, full length magazine tube, small dovetailed front sight, the dovetailed ladder leaf rear sight, case color hammer and lever, and standard brass frame, buttplate, and nose cap. The walnut stock features the rifle butt and has the matching forearm. The butt plate has a matching serial number. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel and tube were refinished at one time and the barrel legend has thinned but are still readily legible. Both have a smooth blue brown patina hue. All of the brass is finely aged and quite handsome. Stocks are excellent albeit a bit shy as refinished and with nominal impressions. Case colors have darkened as has the loading gate blue. Mechanically sound with an extremely strong bore that has some frosting. Far scarcer than the carbines and this early example is quite handsome.
