Manufactured in 1869 with octagon barrel and full length magazine. Gunmetal brass receiver with brass furniture and brass crescent butt plate with trap for the 4 piece Winchester cleaning rod, enclosed. Rifle is period inscribed on left side of receiver "I. Cordeaux". The Cordeaux family was a well known English political family but nothing is known of this presentation. Factory mounted with straight grain American walnut stocks and factory sling swivels. The period of manufacture was a very active time of hostility in the European arena as well as the beginning of the Westward Expansion period in our post-Civil War era. CONDITION: Very good with the barrel and magazine retaining 40-50% faded factory blue finish with the brass waving a mellow mustard patina. The wood is very fine with some lightly impressions and period wear. Mechanically excellent and the rear sight was replaced with a drift adjustable blade sight.
