Colt began selling the legal semi-automatic version of the M16, referred to as the Colt AR-15 SP1, in 1963. This gun was built in 1964, the second year of production; but the first full year of production, as 1963 saw very few made. Made with the original non-chrome lined barrel, early three prong flash suppressor, original first generation old style large head two piece type recoil buffer, original early black plastic pistol grip, triangular hand guard, and early buttstock with no storage compartment. Barrel has "M" stamp and 12 on bottom. Finished in military matte finish. CONDITION: Aside from a couple of small handling marks, retains virtually all of its original finish. Fine bore and action. All original parts. Beautiful, early Vietnam War period civilian Model AR-15. These are getting extremely difficult to find and are going to continue to rise in the eyes of collectors.
