Scarce and historic first-year U.S. Navy Contract Colt Model 1911 semi-automatic pistol, serial no. 9139, manufactured in 1912. One of the very early U.S. Navy-marked M1911 pistols delivered in October 1912, this .45 ACP sidearm features the correct “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. NAVY” slide legend and bears Major W.G. Penfield’s “WGP” inspection cartouche on the frame. The pistol remains in highly original condition, retaining much of its factory brushed blue finish with sharp markings throughout. All early production features are present, including the Rampart Colt on the slide, rounded rear sight, wide spur hammer, long milled trigger, and flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Accompanying the pistol is a U.S. military issue Mills canvas holster and web belt plus an original period ammunition box, making this a remarkably complete 1912 U.S. Navy M1911 rig. A Colt factory archive letter confirms its shipment to the Brooklyn Navy Yard on October 25, 1912 as part of a 1,000-pistol Navy contract. This is a highly desirable example of the iconic Colt .45 with Navy provenance – a centerpiece for advanced 1911 or U.S. military collectors Condition, Very fine with over 90% blue finish with brilliant bore and most all finish. Grips are later replacements but fit well and are attractive. The Mills gear is very good with some light soiling but is extremely rare in any condition. Pistol is complete with correct lanyard loop magazine. Mechanically excellent.
