Per the included factory letter, this pistol shipped as a Super 38 in typical 5" blued configuration to Hall & Knight Hardware Company, Lewiston, Maine, on October 4th, 1947, in a shipment of 6. Please note that the letter incorrectly states that the gun shipped as a Super Match, but Colt Archives has confirmed the gun shipped as a Super 38. Colt Super Match slide numbered "19952" under firing pin retaining plate fit with thick blade front sight, square notch flat top rear sight, and Super Match legend. Barrel marked "COLT SUPER 38 AUTO MATCH" with encircled "MB" on left lug. Small parts comprise spurred checkered hammer, checkered slide release with milled relief cut, thick tab safety, short milled checkered trigger, checkered slide release, A1 elongated grip safety, arched serrated mainspring housing. Frame with VP proof and "5" on left side of trigger guard, right with "4" and serial number behind slide release pin. Fully checkered walnut grips. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the vast majority of the blue finish with some scattered handling marks and surface mottling. Takedown mark at slide release. Slide release and thumb safety reblued. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and some mild frosting. An interesting example with a very rare slide.
