1913 Vintage Colt Single Action Army revolver with long fluted cylinder. Beginning at serial number 330,001 Colt began using leftover cylinders from the Model 1878 Double Action. The Model 1878 ceased production in 1905. This revolver, serial number 331,054 is an early example of this scarce variation of the Single Action Army revolver. Total production of SAAs with Model 1878 cylinders lasted only 2-1/2 years with 1478 produced. Blue with case hardened frame and hammer. 4-3/4" barrel with 2-line Hartford, Connecticut address. Chambered in .45 LC. 2-piece ivory grips. Accompanying revolver is a Colt Archival Letter dated February 21, 1961, signed by R.H. Wagner. Letter documents configuration and shipment to Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis MO. on July 18, 1914 in a shipment of 10 guns of same type. Letter specifically mentions "long-fluted cylinder" CONDITION: Fine with an overall gunmetal grey patina. Only traces of original blue present on cylinder and trigger guard. Grips are replacements, not fitting well to the backstrap. Bore is excellent. Action is tight and crisp. Overall a clean example of a scarce Colt SAA. -MKS-
