Lot #1202:
(C) ENGRAVED COLT 1911A1 .45 ACP SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL.
Originally produced by Colt in 1916, later receiving full coverage engraving, this pistol features tight, flowing three dimensional symmetrical scrolls in "S" and "C" configuration throughout the surfaces that are framing a detailed hunter/ wildlife scene in high relief. Although the piece is unsigned, it is reminiscent of Josef Fugger's work, whose animals are more often than not full bodies, whereas, Kornbrath's are more typically head and shoulders. The pistol also exhibits raised carved ivory grips featuring a Cowgirl on one panel and a steer head on the obverse. CONDITION: The entire pistol was case color hardened after the engraving work, now the colors only are evident under the grips and in strong light in protected areas. There is minor high edge wear to the muzzle and the high points of the grips. The bore is strong and without issue.
