German 1930s Haenel "KK Sport" in .22 Long Rifle made by "Haenel, Suhl". Marked as such on top of the receiver with "BOHLER STAHL" and a "H" on the barrel side, and "E3B", "3283", "Suhl", "5.4mm", "935", and "2" under the barrel. Serial number "3283" is present under the barrel and on the trigger assembly. Octagonal matted blued barrel has the 11mm middle sight groove, and an early Lyman style globe front sight with a diopter sight insert, which was added in the post-WWII period. Barrel has been drilled and tapped for Unertl bases, and all four screws are present. Original rear sight assembly has been post-WWII replaced with an early US sight assembly. Receiver is nicely engraved with a floral pattern, etc. Part of the trigger guard and trigger are checkered. Walnut stock and forearm has some checkering. This rifle has been fitted for a palm rest, which is missing. Sling swivels are present on the forearm and butt stock. Rear sling swivel has been moved and an earlier hole filled in. Rear butt plate is marked "Fray - Mershon, Inc., L.A. Calif." and is a replacement. CONDITION: Rifle is overall excellent and retains approximately 90% of it blued finish. Rifle has clearly been post-WWII modified for US style offhand shooting. Wood has very few scratches and a couple of dents. Bright is bright, trigger functions correctly, and rifle is mechanically sound. WEZ
