Manufactured by Mauser in 1937, the receiver is marked "S/42" over "1937" over the chamber, with partially obliterated Mauser Oberndorf eagle over "63" waffenamts on the right side, and early drooping eagle firing proof on the left beside the serial number. Early drooping eagle firing proof is visible on left side of barrel. "WaA63" waffenamt found on buttstock. Matching components include the receiver, barrel, floorplate, follower, trigger guard, trigger guard screws, rear sight ladder, barrel bands, buttplate, upper handguard, and stock. Bolt is mismatched. Complete with period sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain areas of original blue finish, showing thinning and wear to finish all around with the balance turning a soft patina. Bore is bright, showing strong rifling throughout. Stock shows indentations and minors losses all around and appears to have been lightly sanded, as stock markings are soft. Overall, a very nice pre-War K98 rifle. MLW
