1 of only approximately 290,000 Model 1895 Muskets manufactured by Winchester under contract for the Imperial Russian military between 1915-1916, which desperately needed small arms. This example, manufactured in 1915, is stamped with a Winchester proof above "7.62/ M.M." over the chamber, with Winchester's manufacturer information on the left side. The rear receiver tang bears the usual Winchester Model and patent markings. The right side of the receiver bears a boxed "X (Cyrillic "I") 3" proof. The rifle is in musket configuration, with the addition of a receiver-mounted stripper clip guide and bayonet lug on the front barrel band. Metal components are blued, while the furniture is composed of solid wood. The rifle is fitted with a Finnish pattern brown leather sling. CONDITION: The receiver and lever retain traces of their original blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray patina. Barrel and barrel bands exhibit wear and thinning through to gray and brown patinas. Bore is dark but retains strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered dings, nicks, and marks overall, with the left side of the forend bearing a loss just forward of the receiver. Sling exhibits age-related cracking and areas of mild crazing. A very desirable Winchester Model 1895 Musket, chambered in 7.62x54R.
