(C) SERIAL NUMBER 000000 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1A 7.62X51MM SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE.
Elmer Ballance, recently deceased, is the father of the civilian M14 aka the M1A. He formed L.H. Gun Co. in San Antonio and began assembling M14 style rifles under the Springfield Armory tradename around 1970. This very early gun, very possibly the first standard production receiver is numbered "000000". It is currently fitted with a "8-72" dated SAK Saco-Lowell National Match barrel without Texas address stamp. Barrel has the standard slotted flash hider with a perforated cover. National Match front and rear sights, which have been superseded by a Redfield 2-7x scope. Glass bedded, gloss finished commercial walnut stock of nice figure with walnut handguard. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains the vast majority of its parkerized finishes with some minor areas of oxidation. Stocks have a nice coat varnish and some light impressions. Crisp, bright bore. Fine mechanics. Scope has started to cloud. A historic M1A.
