Circa 1990. Quattrocanne is a rare and interesting shotgun. This 4-barreled shotgun with its 27" chopper lump (demi-bloc) barrels are chambered for 3" cartridges in the .410 caliber. The top barrel is choked Improved Modified, bottom barrel Skeet, left barrel Skeet and the right barrel Full. Top barrel has no rib and a bladed front sight. Left barrel is signed in cursive and reads "Abbiatico & Salvinelli". The pinless sidelock action amazingly has only one trigger to operate this clever mechanism, which fires the barrels one by one. Top lever is engraved and thumb piece has been creatively shaped as a dragon. Coin finished sidelock plates are engraved similarly to that of James Purdey and Sons rose and scroll. Both sidelock sideplates are engraved "Abbiatico & Salinvelli" at base. Bottom action is engraved in similar tight scroll and also reads "Abbiatico & Salvinelli". The single trigger is protected by a coin finished right hand rolled edged trigger guard extending through its long engraved bottom strap which bears the lovely guns serial number "970" in gold. Safe slide is engraved and checkered. Gun is built with an auto-safe. "SAFE" is in gold. The European walnut with straight grain and straight hand grip, albeit a bit large for a .410, is appropriate for aiding in the supporting the gun's mechanism. Buttstock is finished by what appears to be a rosewood butt plate. The matched splinter forend has been designated with a gold shield, teardrop shaped engraved pins, and an Anson styled release. Exterior iron metal is coin finished and scroll engraved to match. This Quattrocanne shotgun lives in its leather makers case with it 4 nickel plated snap caps and cleaning tools. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrels retain mostly all of their original black. Action is clean and functions well. Trigger is crisp. Stock and forend are clean with minor rub and handling marks. Case is very good with some storage and handling marks. This gun is for the fine gun enthusiasts/collectors worldwide. The shotgun was being designed for hunting birds and small game, but with its uniqueness is now valued more as a collection piece than a working gun, but would still be a ton of fun in the field.
