(M) DAVID MCKAY BROWN 12 BORE OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN IN CASE.
This fine gun by this highly regarded Scottish maker, who has been keeping the Dickson round action tradition alive, has 28" demi-bloc barrels mounted with narrow, flat, matted rib. Right side of top barrel is engraved "David McKay Brown (Gunmakers), 32, Hamilton Road, Bothwell". Bottom of bottom barrel is stamped with 1993 London nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers and serial number. Case hardened, round bodied, trigger plate, low profile action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), and double triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage very well cut, medium, open shaded scroll. "David McKay Brown" is in scrolled riband on each side. Top lever, forend iron, and trigger guard are engraved to match action. Serial number is at grip. Attractively marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/4" over checkered wood butt, and features diamond hand, point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip, and gold oval engraved "LBL" on toe line. Slim matching forend has Anson release. Exceptional quality walnut and black morocco leather case with embossed gold line embellishment on top, has two key locks. Interior is lined in scarlet leather with embossed gold filigree decoration around border of lid. Leather is also embossed with McKay Brown name and address, "ROUND ACTION GAME GUN", and "Serial No. 7524". Bottom, also in red leather, is French fitted for stock and action, barrels, and an array of high-quality accessories including: 2-piece ebony and brass cleaning rod, horn handled chamber brush, 3 horn-handled turnscrews, pair of horn and brass snap caps, round polished brass oil bottle, and round polished brass vaseline bottle. Case key is tied to handle. CONDITION: Excellent, showing limited field use. Barrels retain over 95% original blue, slightly silvered at muzzles and sharp edges. Action retains approximately 95% of its original case hardening color, silvered on sharp edges and at rear of top tang. Temper blue of safety is silvered, as is top lever thumbpiece. Bluing on trigger guard is thinning and silvering at grip. Stocks retain a few light handling marks in their original hand rubbed oil finish, checkering lightly worn. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Exterior case leather is excellent with a few slight rubs and compressions. Handle is excellent. Interior leather is excellent with some slight rubs. Accessories are excellent.
