(M) FABULOUS, WELL PROPORTIONED, EXTRA FINISH PURDEY 28 GAUGE OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN

Circa 1995 per London proof code. Slender ribless barrels with a bead front sight on a 1 - 1/4" raised island sweated to muzzle with serrated matting, with a matching 1 - 1/2" island at rear, sight across the top barrel "J. Purdey & Sons. London. England". Barrel flats with 1995 dated London nitro proofs for a 28 gauge with 2 - 3/4" chambers and a nominal 14.0 IBD at 1200 BAR. Forearm loop with "76141" abutting either side, with matching serial number behind. Forearm with Anson style plunger release and point pattern checkering with mullered borders about two open diamonds with floral dressed iron screws. Exterior iron engraved with a widely spaced bouquet of flowers and flowing acanthus scroll on each wing. Interior iron with matching serial number in Gothic script. Small sized sidelock action engraved with an upgraded version of the typical Purdey house rose-and-scroll, utilizing three bouquets of roses rather than the typical two. "J. Purdey & Sons" is inlaid in gold at each bar, and the underside is signed "J. Purdey & Sons / London. England." Double triggers, front hinged, protected by a blued long strap trigger guard with serial number inlaid in gold, automatic safety with Gothic "SAFE" ahead of slide. Crotch figured and fiddlebacked stock with point pattern checkering with mullered borders about the wrist, and gold initials "EH" at toe line, terminating in a checkered butt. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes throughout with some very minor marks from handling and display; trigger guard strap with some thinning to bright steel. Mechanically fine, bores excellent, bright and smooth, ejectors are strong and in time. A very nice well balanced small bore Best, very difficult to find in an over/under configuration. Please note that this lot and the subsequent lot appear to have been ordered by the same person, given the configuration and initials at toeline.
