(M) RIPA ENGRAVED DAVID MCKAY BROWN 20 BORE OVER UNDER SHOTGUN WITH CASE.
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/12/2026
Proofed in 2003 per London proofmarks, and completed in 2004 per "David McKay Brown: Scotland's Gun and Rifle Manufacturer" by Dallas, where this gun is recorded on page 191 as a 20 bore over/under with 29" barrels, a single trigger, and engraved with cutaway floral scroll and pheasant by Ripa. Barrels fit with a small bead front sight on a solid, slightly narrowing, matte textured rib engraved "DAVID McKAY BROWN 32 HAMILTON ROAD BOTHWELL SCOTLAND" offset on left, bottom barrel discretely signed "J Mc D" under ejector arm, and import marked by Hi-Grade Imports behind forearm loop. Bottom flat with serial number and London Nitro Proofs for a 20 gauge with 2 - 3/4" chambers and a nominal 15.9 IBD at 950 BAR. Nicely figured and streaked walnut forearm with reinforced Anson plunger release and point pattern checkering with mullered boards about an open diamond with a floral engraved escutcheon. Exterior iron with floral scrollwork and shell motifs on a stippled, blackened ground. The classic Scottish round body action is engraved with flowing floral scrollwork with bold ribbons on either side that read "David McKay Brown", with a vignette of a rising pheasant on the base. The engraving is signed "Ri Pa inc T Poli" abutting trigger guard. Single mechanical trigger with a non-automatic safety with intaglio "SAFE" in gold ahead of slide. Well figured walnut stock with a sharp pistol grip engraved with point pattern checkering with partial mullered borders at the wrist, with a vacant gold vanity plaque at toe line, and finished by a leather wrapped recoil pad with English style covered screws. Housed in an oxblood leather case with red lining and a David McKay Brown trade label in lid, and containing accessories comprising a two piece cleaning rod, striker pot, pair snapcaps, three turnscrews, brush, wallet with mop, jag, and brush, a David McKay Brown branded selvyt cloth, and what appears to be the original 1 - 5/8" of buttstock, removed for the pad. Case is accompanied by a canvas slip with leather tabbed corners. Accompanied by a copy of "David McKay Brown..." by Dallas, and a folder of information regarding David McKay Brown's history. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes throughout with some scattered handling marks and minor rubs from assembly and light field use. Engraving is crisp and well cut. Stocks excellent with some very minor handling marks. Needs some minor mechanical attention as second trigger pull does not always trip sear, and top lever occasionally closes when gun is open. Bores excellent with some minor firing striations towards chambers, ejectors are strong and in time. Case excellent with some scattered handling marks, accessories excellent, many appear NOS or equivalent. An outstanding small bore over/under from the renowned Scottish maker.
