Just 1000 sets of 2 matching handsomely appointed 1895 rifles in .405 WCF were produced in 2009 to commemorate the centennial of Theodore Roosevelt's famous 1909 African Safari, the matching numbered gun is Lot 2174 in this auction. Roosevelt nicknamed the 95 he took on the safari "Big Medicine" and put it to good use. Rifle is finished in high polished blue. Tapered round barrel with a gold band at the muzzle, matted top, and sporting sights. Receiver is engraved with gold inlaid "THEODORE / ROOSEVELT / SAFARI / CENTENNIAL", "1909 / 2009", and "BIG MEDICINE" banners, as well as African big game and images of the President. Lever has his signature applied in gold. Checkered walnut forend with splinter tip. The highly figured walnut stock has an inlaid commemorative medallion. Accompanied by the original box. CONDITION: Excellent, as new with light handling marks. Excellent bore. Fine mechanics.
