Designed under the supervision of Hugo Schmeisser, the MP-28.II was an improvement upon the genre defining MP-18.I machine that was utilized by Germany during the close of World War I. This model was one of the earliest "select-fire" machine guns, and was copied by the British and manufactured by them as their Lanchester machine gun. While proving to be an efficient and reliable submachine gun with German police units as well as other Eastern European Axis allies, the MP-28.II was quickly replaced in German military service by other newly designed submachine guns. The MP-28 still was retained in service and used in limited numbers throughout World War II. This example is stamped "MP.28.II/ SYSTEM/ SCHMEISSER/ PATENT" above the serial number on the magazine well collar. Otherwise, this example is devoid of any arsenal markings with the exception of the serial numbers, which are not matching. Features include a parkerized finish, 8" barrel, perforated barrel shroud, inverted V-front sight, leaf rear sight, as well as a 1-piece walnut stock. Complete with one additional magazine. CONDITION: Metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied parkerized finish, exhibiting some scatter superficial marks from handling and storage. Bore is bright and retains good rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from storage and handling and bears several cracks around the receiver latch. A desirable and seldom seen MP-28.II machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER.
