MP-40 machine gun manufactured during the first year of official MP-40 production at Steyr-Daimler-Puch. The top of the lower assembly is stamped "MP40 / 660/ 40", together with Steyr's "bnz" code and "(Eagle) / 623" waffenamts present on the left side of the receiver. Additional Steyr "(Eagle) / 623" waffenamts are present on most exterior components. Receiver is fitted with an early flat-side magazine housing that features a fully checkered magazine release button. Attractive brown bakelite furnishings. Bolt matches with sliding safety-lock which locks the bolt forward in the closed position. One original magazine is included with this gun, as well as an original leather sling. Visible matching numbers include the lower assembly, receiver tube, rear sight assembly, barrel, front sight hood, and bolt. Electronic NFA registry indicates "Germany" as the manufacturer. CONDTION: Overall appearance and finish a pleasing gray patina with some areas turning a brown patina. Extremely fine bore with well-defined rifling throughout. Bakelite furniture shows some nicks and scattered marks from handling and storage, but is otherwise extremely fine. This is a full-auto-only machine gun. A very desirable first year of production Steyr MP-40 machine gun which very seldom surfaces on the collector market. A fine example of an iconic World War II German machine gun.
