Maget manufactured MG-42 machine gun marked “N.C.” and “cra” with Nazi proofs on receiver and other various places. Other Nazi proof marks in evidence are “WaA 47” on top cover, and particularly nice original Nazi cartouches and proofs on the left side of the wooden buttstock. What is particularly impressive about this gun is that is retains matching bolt and barrel, not forced-matched as so many other specimens are. Anti-aircraft flip-up post present at rear sight. The gun also has especially attractive reddish bakelite grip panels. Nice original bipod also with a sling clip also included with this lot. Electronic NFA registry indicates “GERMAN” in the manufacturer’s block. PROVENANCE: Photocopy of original Form 4467 (Amnesty) registration documenting the original registrant as, “Bruce Johnson, Brig. Gen USAF (ret)”. He was the first Commander of the 50th Space Wing from 1949 to 1951, and a print-out of this unit’s lineage is included as provenance. Also included is hardcover book "Man With 2 Hats" an autobiography. It might be that there is an anecdotal passage in this book which documents how he acquired this gun. Bruce Johnson received his promotion to Brigadier General in 1950. He served during the Korean War as Deputy Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff for Reserve Forces. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent original finish thinning to a gray patina in places. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. The wear pattern on this gun speaks of it being used under field conditions. Reddish brown grips near excellent with some light handling marks. Buttstock extremely fine to near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a full auto only machine gun. Truly a remarkable gun in remarkable condition. One of the best specimens of its kind. You all know what this is, and it is what you have been looking for! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2026-09-115.
