Very attractive 1st variation Auto Ordnance, Savage “S” prefix 1928A1 Thompson. Upper and lower assembly serial numbers match. Lyman adjustable rear sight. Vertical foregrip. Auto-Ordnance marked with bullet logo compensator, and left side of receiver marked “U.S. Model 1928 A1” with serial number S-371594”. Other left-hand receiver markings are, “THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN”, “CALIBRE .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE”. Right-hand receiver markings are typical “AUTO – ORDNANCE” with Bridgeport address. Barrel index mark not in alignment with receiver indicates this is a replacement barrel. Accessories include one World War II era “Bridgeport” 50-round drum, 5 30-round magazine, 2 20-round Bridgeport marks magazines 2 unmarked 20-round magazines, and manual. Electronic NFA registry indicates “AUTO ORDNANCE” as the manufacturer. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine dull matte grey-blue finish with some loss of finish to grey patina at the high edges, exclusive of barrel and compensator which have a lustrous finish. Buttplate finish has thinned to grey-brown patina. Drum has a matte finish and stick magazines a lustrous finish. Bore is fine with some very light pitting. Bolt face very fine. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire machine gun. A very nice specimen despite replaced barrel, which is not uncommon of World War II era guns.
