Extremely handsome M-14 select-fire machine gun manufactured by Harrington & Richardson and purported to have come from the H & R museum. Designed to be a shortened and lightened M-14, more suited for tropical area use. The top of the receiver is stamped "U.S. RIFLE/ 7.62 MM M14/ H.&R. ARMS CO" above the serial number. One can discern added pencil mark “2 # 3” on the right side of buttstock. "HRT" marked bolt assembly. One original magazine and one green web sling is included with this lot. Wooden stock does not have any evidence of proof marks. Electronic NFA registry indicates “HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON” in the manufacturer’s block. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent, combination of original and matte blue refinish. The locking ring to the rear of the gas nut has some light pitting which has been finished over. There is more of a matte gray finish on buttstock metal furnishings than there is on the barrel and rest of the parts. Stock is extremely fine to near excellent with only the slightest of handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is near excellent. This is a select-fire machine gun. An exceptionally well presenting example of the U.S. military rifle designed to be a box magazine version of the M1 Garand, and also able to fulfill the role of the Browning automatic rifle in the late 1950s and into the 1960s.
