Colt 1921/28 Navy Thompson with Cutts compensator and “U.S. Navy” marking above model marking on left side of receiver as well as “8” overstamp. “JHB” inspection mark clearly visible on right side of receiver. Beautiful and clean Cutts compensator. Nickel oiler in butt. Gun retains 1928 internal parts. Buttstock retains visible cartouche at leading edge. Accessories include five original finish 20 round magazines, one original matte finish 3rd model (1920s patent dates) 50 round drum magazine, and an “Eagle Lock Co.” black hard case with long brass cleaning rod. It is the Colt Thompson which is the most iconic of all American machine guns, and the ones with the Cutts compensator and vertical foregrip such are this one have the most recognized silhouette. Electronic NFA Registry indicates "AUTO ORDNANCE" in the manufacturer’s block. PROVENANCE: Original Form 1 dated 1955 showing this gun registered to the Osaukee County Sheriff’s Dept of Port Washington, Wisconsin, modern shoulder patch from same, and copy of Form 5 dated 1992 transferring this gun to a subsequent owner in Wisconsin. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original deep lustrous finish with some very slight light handing marks and slight scratches. There is a small bit of loss of finish below the “Colt” address. The actuator slot has only the slightest loss of finish. Wood is near excellent with the slightest of handling marks. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. The 50 round drum has some loss of finish to a gray patina at the high edges. Stick magazines are extremely fine. Drum very attractive with high-edge gray patina. Hard case is also extremely fine to near excellent with clean presentable interior. Mechanics of gun are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. An exceptionally attractive Thompson which has every indication of being fired very little. An extremely collectible example of the most popular and sought after of the Thompson machine gun models with the added appeal of having U.S. Navy connection. A remarkable gun.
