Very interesting MP43 assembled by C.G. Haenel in 1944, with eagle over “37” proof and “cos” (Mertz werk) on underside of receiver. Bolt has factory cut-out near extractor and was manufactured by Mauser with factory applied “M” marking with C.G. Haenel final proof, however serial number is non-matching. Operating rod serial number position has been lightly buffed with electro pencil scrawl. Receiver and buttstock serial numbers match with very clear “fxo” marking in the wood. One original Nazi marked magazine is included. What is unusual about this gun is that in addition to the standard sling swivel at the right side of the gas block this gun has another fixed sling swivel professionally attached to the left side of the gas block as well. This was accomplished by drilling a hole through the gas block, passing the sling loop stud through, and then peening over the head to make it fast. Nice job. The 'why' is a mystery. This model was highly effective and the first modern assault rifle produced in significant quantities. It incorporates many desirable features such as being select-fire, firing from a closed bolt, taking an intermediate length cartridge (shorter than the standard 8mm) which was less bulky to carry, and yet could range out further and with greater effect than a pistol cartridge. The shorter cartridge allowed for a high 30 round magazine capacity. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good original finish with loss of finish to grey and brown patina on metal parts exclusive of barrel and gas block. There is a weld filled hole at the bottom on the receiver forward of the magazine weld and the barrel, gas block, and front sight finish are much better indicating there are replacements incidental to reactivation. Wood butt is 5-5/8” high profile style and has numerous dings and handling marks. Mechanics are fine. Bore is extremely fine shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. This is a select-fire machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
