This is an earlier and popular version of the Beretta 38/42 as manufactured for Italian forces during World War II. Visible numbers are matching. Marked on top of receiver “M.P. “BERETTA” Mod. 38/42-Cal.9". This example has flutes cut in the barrel with compensator cuts in top of barrel to counteract muzzle climb. Rear trigger guard screw retaining screw is not present. One original magazine included. The Beretta 38/42 utilizes two triggers, one for semi-auto fire and the other for full-auto fire. It is light, yet steady and ergonomic to hold, and relatively easy to clean. Anybody who has spent any time shooting this model will attest it being an excellent machine gun. So good, that German World War II forces took them into their inventory, and generally preferred them to their own designs. When this specimen was registered, it was erroneously registered with the serial number "1753" compared to it's correct serial number of "1758", due to the "8" being lightly struck on the left hand side. This can be corrected upon transfer using a paper transfer form. PROVENANCE: The Class III weapons formerly on loan to Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is very good with about 70% smooth military finish thinning to a gray patina with some spots of old cleaned slight pitting. Buttstock has personalized initials on left side above triggers with numerous dings and handling marks. Bore is shiny and bright with some slight frosting. Bolt face is very good. Overall a very handsome gun with what wear there is being from normal use. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-05-094
