Nice example of a circa 18th century American silver hilted small sword. These types of swords were used by British and American officers alike during the Revolutionary War. The sword features a signature straight triangular colichemarde blade with engraved scrollwork designs on all 3 sides. The double-shell guard is relatively plain with the exception of a defined border. The pas d'ane rings are also plain and do not exhibit any visible hallmarks. Single rounded quillon and smooth, elongated knucklebow which connects to the unadorned olive-shaped pommel featuring a equally plain capstan. Grip is ornately wrapped with bands of silver and braided silver wire. CONDITION: Blade exhibits a grey patina with evident wear to the muted decorations. The hilt exhibits evidence of an older cleaning with possible polishing. Hilt is loose, producing a wobble when handled and suggests that the sword was disassembled, possibly recently. Overall good.
