A PAIR OF VINTAGE WOODEN DUCK DECOYS
Early 20th century. (A) B.G. GRAVES DECOY CO. PEORIA, ILLINOIS WORKING DUCK DECOY WITH BRANDED KEEL. CONDITION: Solid-body factory-made working duck decoy produced by the B.G. Graves Decoy Company of Peoria, Illinois, retaining original metal keel strap stamped “B.G. Graves Decoy Co. Peoria Ill.” and further marked “J.L.S.” to the underside. The decoy displays a classic Illinois River form with well-shaped head and bill, glass eyes, and an even, naturally worn painted surface showing attractive patina throughout. Moderate gunning wear with areas of paint thinning and surface abrasion; underside with expected wear and age checking around keel hardware; structurally sound and presenting well with strong maker identification. (B) B.G. GRAVES DECOY CO. PEORIA, ILLINOIS WORKING DUCK DECOY WITH BRANDED KEEL. CONDITION: Solid-body factory-made working duck decoy produced by the B.G. Graves Decoy Company of Peoria, Illinois, retaining original metal keel strip stamped with maker identification and marked “J.L.S.” to the underside. The decoy exhibits a classic Illinois River profile with carved head, glass eyes, and a well-worn painted surface showing extensive use in the field. Moderate to heavy gunning wear with significant paint thinning and surface abrasion; visible seam separation at the neck typical of age but remaining stable; oxidation and wear to keel hardware; structurally sound with strong overall presence.
