The Estoc became the preferred sword for piercing armor due to its very narrow pointed tip, which was more efficient than other swords (and that soldiers frequently broke other swords while trying to use them to chop firewood). This example has a 36 - 1/2" diamond cross-section blade, with first 9" a thinner section with fuller and flattened sides. Simple swept quillons that flare at terminals, black leather wrapped waisted grip with a flared octagonal pommel decorated with slashes. CONDITION: Overall good. Metal has numerous casting areas from production, and is not completely straight for the length of the blade. Some light patination throughout. Leather grip has shrunk and has some crazing and cracks, 1 is live and should be addressed. Pommel is a later replacement and capstan indicates that the sword has been apart. EMW
