Absolutely fantastic Driggs Ordnance Company, Inc, New York City 37mm 1 Pounder gun on original U.S. wooden wheeled and steel mount. Mounted accessories include original front and rear sights, and detachable shoulder rest. Attractive U.S. Navy data plates with “J.B.S.” inspectors initials and “1897” date on both gun and carriage. Also included with this lot is an extremely attractive and matching ammunition chest, also with Driggs Ordnance Company brass plaque and containing 12 rounds of reloaded brass case ammunition, and bore brush. This gun was featured and filmed firing as part of the “Top Shot” production series. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent black enamel paint refinish over red oxide primer with some loss of finish exposing some primer and bare metal at the muzzle from firing. Some of the black enamel painted finish has flaked away from the wheel hubs and axle hardware as well, but this doe not detract from the extremely handsome presentation of this piece. Navy grey paint on wood of wheels, axle casing, and trial bars of carriage make for a striking and very attractive contrast. Steel rims of wooden wheels extremely fine turning to a brown patina at contact surfaces. Wood is extremely fine and strong. Bore is exceptionally clean with strong rifling and some light pitting visible in the grooves. Receiver chamber and breechblock extremely fine to near excellent. Absolutely fabulous piece for the U.S. Navy and turn of the century antique cannon collector.
