Circa 1820. Found in Michigan. Forged head composed of many layers of iron similar to Damascus. Inlaid on each side with two silver “V’s” below bowl and two silver bars across back of blade. One side inlaid with a detailed and engraved cavalry saber, the other inlaid with an engraved silver moon. Unusually large bowl with tooled turnings. Figured maple haft with three silver bands, a silver end cap. This example is pictured in color on page 86 and 87 of “Tomahawks and Pipe Axes Of the American Frontier” by John Baldwin.
