Executed in 2002 is this incredible artist proof print 42 of 95 by the famed artist Mort Kunstler noted for his famed Civil War images. Entitled "Courage in Blue" is based on the heroic yet devastating Battle of Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862 during the second full year of the four year conflict that claimed over 600,000 American lives. Burnsides Army of the Potomac attempted to lay siege to the Confederate entrenchment at Marye's Heights of General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. After numerous fruitless assaults, one last attempt was made by the 20th Maine led by Medal of Honor recipient Joshua Chamberlain. This assault failed as did all the others and the 20th spent the night amongst the dead bodies of their friends and fellow soldiers before ordered out the next day. The print is dramatic with Chamberlain in the center behind the American flag as his beloved 20th Maine amidst his fallen and still fighting comrades. Has a certificate of authenticity on the back.
