Developed from a farm implement, the bill was the favored pole arm of the English. These polearms were used from the 14th-17th century and were utilized from the Scottish border to wars in France. This example features a flat, outwards curving, almost axe-like head with similarities to a halberd. The head measures approximately 35" from the spike tip to the bottom of the collar. The collar is nicely line engraved and secured to a haft by a misshapen metal rivet, that makes the overall measurement approximately 94 - 1/2". Haft is an older replacement and also features nice double line engraved details. CONDITION: Head exhibits a gray patina with scattered areas of pitting and freckling. Scattered areas of delamination. Haft exhibits scattered dents and pock marks throughout its length. A very nice displayable polearm.
